Potomac Street Mile Race

August 30, 2014

The 10th Annual Potomac Street Mile will take place on Saturday August 30, 2014. The event was the first major event put on by Main Street just after it was organized and has been one of its most successful. The Potomac Street Mile is a fun, healthy, competitive activity that has drawn participants from both the local area and the region.

The early events were small in number having less than 50 runners coming out but 4 years ago it hit  numbers over 150 and depending on weather conditions has been holding steady in numbers since. One of the fun benefits of doing the event has been the free ice cream cone. Also runners are given an attractive Mile Run t-shirt, post race refreshments, and the chance to win both age group and random fun prizes. The runners and supporters are also treated to lively DJ music, before, during and after the race.

Registration will open at Square Corner Park at 8:30am with the first heats taking place at 10am and the entire running event completed before 11am. Registration fees are reasonable and set to help families take part in the event. Pre-registrants save even more. There is also a fun ½ mile run event open to any who are not into the competitive end or who just want a chance to take part but not up to the full mile. The course is out and back along East Potomac street and very flat. Age group heats are youth 12 & under, teens 13-18, adult 19 & over.
